How To Go About Covering Up Acne
Even though there are many effective over-the-counter and prescription medications for treating acne, getting rid ot acne takes a bit of time and so, while the medication does its work, the majority of people want to cover up their spots as much as possible.
That said, it could be argued that since this is a common condition which affects about 85% of the population between the ages of about twelve and twenty-four you really shouldn’t worry about trying to cover it up at all since nearly all of us go through it. Nevertheless, try telling that to a young girl or boy who is heading out on that all important first date.
Women especially tend to suffer more as, whether you like it or not, women are judged more on their looks. But, they are also luckily enough to have a ready-made answer in the form of makeup.
Normal makeup can lead to difficulties and, while it can cover up your spots, it could also worsen the underlying condition. The solution here is therefore to use makeup which is formulated for use with acne and this means makeup which is labeled as ‘non-comedogenic’. This term is derived from the word ‘comedone’ which is the medical name for the blackheads and whiteheads accompanying many mild forms of acne.
You should begin by looking for a concealer which can be dabbed onto your pimples using a disposable sponge. You need to be sparing in your use of concealer though and use just as much as you need and no more.
Following a concealer you need to move on to a foundation which is very good at blending your skin tones and again this has got to be used sparingly but in sufficient quantity to achieve an even color overall. Foundation is not only very good for covering your acne spots but, since it is less reflective than your skin itself, it also softens out the shadows and reduced the contrast which is often produced by the bumps which occur with acne.
Finally, a light covering of powder will also assist in further blending color tones, reducing shadows and eliminating contrast.
So much for the women, but what about the men? Well, there are two approaches which you can adopt here. The first is to follow the women and apply makeup and you will find that there is makeup available these days that is specially formulated to be used by men. If, however, you feel that this is not for you then a second approach is to purchase one of the range of over-the-counter treatments that contain acne covering compounds to both help cure the condition and hide its appearance at the same time.
It would be great if we had a proactive acne solution which could get rid of acne fast but at present this tends to be a somewhat lengthy process and so, until we have some treatments and products that cure acne fast, effectively concealing the condition will continue to be important for many sufferers.
